The last four decisions

Setting and stone are chosen. What remains are the details that cannot be changed cheaply after the ring is made, so they are worth a minute each.

Metal. 14K gold is harder and more scratch-resistant; 18K is richer in colour and softer. Platinum is the densest and the only one that will not need re-plating — white gold is rhodium-plated and that plating wears through every few years.
Finger size. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are largest, and at room temperature. A setting with a wide band or a full eternity of pavé needs to run a quarter size larger than a plain band would.
Engraving. Interior engraving is done before the stone is set. Dates and initials fit comfortably; longer phrases need a band at least 2mm wide.
Preview. Rotate the 3D render through hero, side, top and profile before ordering. Profile view is the one that shows how high the stone sits — the single detail most people are surprised by in person.
