  2. Prioritise cut grade. It is the only one of the 4Cs that changes how much light the stone throws, and it is the difference you notice from across a table.
  3. Match colour to metal. In yellow or rose gold, G–I looks identical to D–F once set. In platinum or white gold, warmth is easier to spot, so go a grade higher.
  4. Aim for eye-clean rather than flawless. VS1–VS2 has no inclusions visible without a loupe at these carat weights.
